Financial Safety

For awhile now, I have been thinking about it means to make it “safely home.” Of course, there are many aspects to that journey – spiritual, relational, financial. But what I would like to spend some time exploring “out loud” here, if you will, is what it means succeed financially, to plan ahead for a future that is perhaps unknown, and a retirement that could extend for many years.

For a long time, I have self-managed the assets of my personal 401K. That means that I am engaged on a nearly daily basis with the stock market and other commodity markets in an effort to build a portfolio that will fund a vibrant life beyond our retirement. Here, then, what I want to do is share some of my thoughts about how I trade, what I trade, what my goals are, and build accountability for how I am doing. The goals is to get better at what I do, and to share with others as I learn. Some things I look forward to thinking about:

  • What are my investing and trading goals? Are they different things?
  • What does my portfolio look like? What do I buy and why? What do I sell, and why?
  • Companies that I think might be promising investments.
  • Personal thoughts about the state of the economy as they relate to financial planning.
  • More

So, to get started, here are the current holdings in my portfolio. More to follow on each of these in the coming days:

  1. Ambarella (AMBA)
  2. Aetna (AET)
